Three welcome messages, one of them with your company name
You call 1233 from your own phone and choose option 2, Welkomstboodschap (welcome message). In its own instructions Odido describes three choices:
- Personal welcome message: you record the full text yourself.
- Standard welcome message with your name: you record only your name.
- Standard welcome message with your phone number.
So for a business there is not much to choose from: only the first lets you say who you are, when you will call back and what the caller should do. The two standard options produce the familiar tinny message that never mentions your company name, and it sounds exactly like what it is, a personal phone.
Unlike KPN, Odido has no second slot for a message of your own. If you want a different greeting during your holiday, you record over the existing one and record the original back afterwards. So keep your normal script somewhere you can find it again, and you will not have to write it twice.
Odido has no upload button, and it does not need one
Odido's instructions say nothing about uploading an audio file, and that is correct: no Dutch provider offers it. Everything runs through the call-in menu. What you can do there is play a finished recording at the moment you would start speaking, so the caller hears a professional voice instead of you on the bus.
An example script that works as your only message
Because you can only keep one, a script without dates works best. Do not name a week or a month and it stays accurate all year.
“You have reached De Vries Consulting. We cannot take your call right now. Please leave your name, your number and a short description of your question, and we will call you back on the next working day.”
How to play the file onto it
- Open the file on a computer with real speakers and find a quiet room.
- Call 1233, choose option 2 for the welcome message and then the personal message.
- Set the volume to around 70 to 80 percent and hold the phone microphone near the speaker.
- Play the file as soon as recording starts, and wait a beat before you hang up.
- Call yourself and check that the opening is fully there before you leave it as is.
Odido Business with Vast op Mobiel works differently
If you have Odido Business with Vast op Mobiel, your voicemail does not run through the call-in menu but through the desktop app: your messages appear there under the Voicemail tab. If you are with a cheaper brand rather than Odido itself, follow your own provider's instructions; the number 1233 is the same at most of them, the menu need not be.
